The Banner Art Project was introduced in 2008 as in innovative way to showcase the styles and artistic approaches of local and national artisans. Downtown Vision’s goal was to create an event to draw residents and visitors alike, regardless of one’s artistic tastes. The program started with 12 local artists, 24 banners and a silent auction. Since then, the event has more than doubled in size, moved to a live auction format, with a full steak dinner providing for a fun filled evening in support of the Garden City Arts community.
The Banner Art Project is a series of events dedicated to showcasing the banners each year. Starting with an Art walk where the banners are first available to preview throughout downtown in participating businesses on Saturday August 8th. Next they are displayed on the downtown light poles for a few weeks for Main Street visitors to enjoy. Finally they are showcased for purchase at our annual art auction scheduled for Saturday November 7th, 2020. This event serves as a fundraiser for Downtown Beautification projects. The banners are excellent options to hang in your home or business. If you are looking for another option where you can still support the fundraiser and the arts, consider bidding on a banner that you can donate to a Nursing Home or School to expose others to the arts. All tickets are sold in advance, there are no tickets sold at the door. Tickets will be made available on August 8th for $48 each which includes tax.
