Committees

Downtown Vision has three active committees that help to shape and guide the path of Downtown GC. These committees report to our Board of Directors, who provide direction to the committees and Executive Director. We are always open to new members on our committees. If you’re interested in serving on a committee or on our Board of Directors, please contact the Executive Director at vision@gcdowntown.com.

Meeting
Design Committee-2nd Thursday at 7:00 am – Patrick Dugan’s Coffee House

The Design Committee is responsible for getting Downtown Garden City in top physical shape. Capitalizing on its best assets such as historic buildings and pedestrian-oriented streets is just part of the story. An inviting atmosphere created through attractive window displays, parking areas, building improvements, street furniture, signs, sidewalks, streetlights, green spaces, and landscaping conveys the commercial district in a positive light and describes what the area has to offer consumers and investors. Design activities also include instilling good maintenance practices in Downtown, enhancing the physical appearance of the commercial district be rehabilitating historic buildings, encouraging appropriate new construction, developing sensitive design management systems, and long-term planning.

Economic Restructuring Committee - Meets as needed

This committee strengthens our core business district’s existing economic assets while expanding and diversifying its economic base. This committee has a key role in the implementation of newly developed Downtown Master Plan. Downtown Vision helps sharpen the competitiveness of existing business owners and recruits compatible new businesses and new economic uses to build a commercial district that responds to today’s consumers’ needs. Converting unused or underused commercial space into economically productive property also helps boost profitability of Downtown. This committee is also tasked with targeting specific properties or development projects in the Downtown District. They work with individual investors and developers in an advisory capacity, as a representative of the goals and ideals of the organization and the district as a whole. The committee works closely with all other downtown committees to move the development project forward.  This committee creates a road map for the identified project while matching potential investors with property &/or developers, and educates and advises on the various incentives and programs available to them to insure the sustainability of said project.

Promotions Committee-1st Thursday at 5:30 pm - Downtown Vision Office

The Promotions Committee sells a positive image of Downtown Garden City and encourages consumers and investors to live, work, shop, play, and invest in the Main Street district. By marketing Downtown’s unique characteristics to residents, investors, business owners, and visitors, an effective promotional strategy forges a positive image through advertising, retail promotional activities, special events, and marketing campaigns carried out by local volunteers. These activities improve consumer and investor confidence in the district and encourage commercial activity and investment in the area.
